The
Final Glamour

Proofreading

The last, meticulous sweep that ensures your manuscript is clean, correct, and ready to shine.

Once your manuscript has been shaped, refined, and polished, it enters the final phase: the glamour. Proofreading is the quiet, concentrated pass that catches the tiny errors the earlier edits couldn’t see: typos, punctuation slips, missing words, spacing inconsistencies, formatting stumbles, and stray repetitions.
The Final Glamour is where your story receives its last touch of precision before it meets readers, agents, or publication.

The Transformation

Proofreading is subtle but powerful. It’s the difference between ‘almost ready’ and ‘ready.’ When this layer is complete, the prose reads cleanly, confidently, and without distraction. Nothing pulls the reader out of the moment; nothing jars the flow. Your story takes centre stage, unobstructed.

The PRocess

Proofreading is the quietest stage of all. I perform a slow, careful sweep of your manuscript with Track Changes enabled, focusing entirely on surface-level accuracy: typos, punctuation slips, spacing issues, formatting inconsistencies, repeated words, missing words, dialogue punctuation, and visual alignment.
I also check your manuscript against your style sheet (or create one for you) to ensure consistency in spelling, capitalisation, and naming conventions.
This phase is meticulous rather than creative — nothing is rewritten, only corrected.
You receive:

  1. The fully marked-up version

  2. A clean version with corrections applied

  3. Style-sheet document specifying all decisions made and the reason for them.

If I spot any layout issues that aren’t editable in your file (e.g., chapter breaks, scene dividers), I include notes so you can adjust them easily on your end.

What’s Included

• Punctuation and spacing fixes
• Consistency checks (names, numbers, capitalisation)

Price & Turnaround

Every manuscript is different, so the exact quote depends on length and scope. As a guide:

Price:
Proofreading for fiction is €0.01 per word, including full Track Changes corrections and a clean copy.

Turnaround:
Most projects are completed within 1–2 weeks, depending on manuscript length. Longer manuscripts (100k+) may need a little more time for accuracy.

Rush timelines are often possible — proofreading is the quickest of the editing tiers.

FAQs

Will proofreading change my writing?
No. Proofreading focuses only on correcting surface-level errors such as typos and formatting slips. Your voice and style remain intact.

How does this differ from copyediting or line editing?
Proofreading is the last step in the editing process. It does not involve rewriting, refining style, or restructuring sentences. Those are handled in copyediting (grammar and consistency) or line editing (style and flow).

What kinds of errors do you catch?
Proofreading identifies typos, grammar mistakes, punctuation errors, formatting issues, and consistency problems.

What genres do you accept?
All fiction: fantasy, sci-fi, romance, mystery, YA, historical, and literary.

Writers often say that proofreading provides reassurance more than anything else. It confirms that the manuscript is ready — the typos caught, the slips fixed, the small details tidied. The Final Glamour offers that last check writers rely on before sharing their work.
