01 / The purpose

Separate publications.
One scholarly journey.

The Research Continuity Suite is a specialist editorial partnership for researchers completing an article-based doctoral dissertation. Where individual papers are drafted, reviewed and published over several years, editorial choices can become scattered across journals, manuscripts and versions. This suite preserves a continuous record of those choices.

I can copyedit individual journal manuscripts as they become ready, check citations and references to the relevant journal style, and maintain a bespoke Research Continuity Register that tracks terminology, abbreviations, methodological descriptions, recurring concepts and relationships between articles.

When the integrative dissertation takes shape, that editorial history becomes especially useful. I can copyedit the synthesis and other editable dissertation material, check the relationship between its parts, review references and formatting, and prepare the complete document to the university requirements you provide.

After your dissertation-level copyedit and author revisions, a separate final proofread is included in the agreed final-stage commission, together with a defined post-examination proofread of reasonable examiner-requested textual corrections. Each stage is agreed and booked separately. You do not need to commit to several years of work in advance.

Especially suited toArticle-based doctorates
  • Doctoral researchers beginning their first journal article
  • Researchers working towards a compilation or article-based dissertation
  • Projects involving several journals and different house styles
  • Researchers preparing an integrative synthesis and final dissertation
02 / The editorial journey

Four editorial phases.
One continuing perspective.

The service follows the research rather than an artificial fixed calendar. Individual article commissions establish and enrich the continuity record; the final dissertation receives its own coordinated editing and proofreading stages.

I.

Begin & establish

  1. 01Review doctoral requirements, the research plan, your first article and the intended journal’s author guidance
  2. 02Create the Research Continuity Register and record initial language, terminology and referencing conventions

A clear starting point, whenever you begin.

II.

Edit & document

  1. 03Copyedit each commissioned, unpublished article for academic clarity, flow, grammar and journal-appropriate language
  2. 04Check the article’s citations and references to its target journal style
  3. 05Update the register as terminology, methods, abbreviations and recurring concepts develop

Each article stands on its own, without losing the connection.

III.

Integrate & prepare

  1. 06Copyedit the integrative synthesis and agreed editable dissertation-level material
  2. 07Review terminology, article details and cross-references between the synthesis and the component papers
  3. 08Check dissertation references, headings, lists, front matter and institutional formatting

A complete dissertation informed by its history.

IV.

Proof & complete

  1. 09Following your dissertation revisions, perform the agreed separate final proofreading and quality-control pass
  2. 10Deliver the agreed files and appropriate language certificate; later proofread defined post-examination textual corrections

The final stages, carefully scoped and scheduled.

03 / The full editorial scope

An evolving editorial record.
Every manuscript considered.

The suite combines the editorial care of individual manuscripts with an ongoing record of the research as a whole. Journal-specific conventions are respected; continuity does not mean imposing identical wording on every paper.

01 / 12

Article-level copyediting

Comprehensive language editing of each separately commissioned, unpublished journal manuscript, with the author’s research and voice preserved.

02 / 12

Journal-specific reference checks

Citation–reference correspondence, bibliographic consistency and application of each target journal’s required citation conventions.

03 / 12

Research Continuity Register

A living cross-manuscript record of terms, abbreviations, methods language, recurring concepts, exceptions and open editorial queries.

04 / 12

Terminology across articles

Identification of unexplained variations in recurring definitions, naming choices and technical vocabulary; legitimate changes are recorded rather than erased.

05 / 12

Methodological description tracking

Editorial tracking of recurring participant, dataset and methods terminology for author review, without verification of study design or findings.

06 / 12

Publication status & journal exceptions

A record of article versions and known style differences so the final synthesis can reflect what has actually been published or accepted.

07 / 12

Synthesis & dissertation copyediting

Detailed language refinement of the integrative chapters and agreed editable dissertation material.

08 / 12

Dissertation references & citations

Checking the final dissertation’s citations, lists of publications and bibliography according to the agreed institutional system.

09 / 12

Formatting & document structure

Preparation of the assembled dissertation’s headings, front matter, pagination, tables, figures, lists and internal references.

10 / 12

Final proof after author revisions

One defined proofreading pass of the agreed dissertation text following the primary copyedit and your revisions.

11 / 12

Post-examination final proof

A further defined proofread of reasonable examiner-requested textual corrections in the final dissertation commission.

12 / 12

Editorial records & certificate

Tracked and clean manuscripts, style documentation, clear editorial reports and a language revision certificate reflecting the work completed.

Published or formally accepted articles are not silently rewritten for consistency. University and publisher rules govern how they may appear in the dissertation. The service is language and editorial support, not research supervision, disciplinary peer review or authorship. For a single completed manuscript rather than a series of articles, see the Manuscript Refinement Suite or the Manuscript Preparation Suite.

04 / Your editorial documents

The editorial memory.
Kept from article to dissertation.

Each commission produces its own agreed files. As the project develops, the Research Continuity Register becomes the accumulated reference point for later work, without replacing journal or university instructions.

05 / The signature editorial feature

The Research Continuity Register.
A living record of the work.

A clear editorial thread connecting separate publications and the dissertation they become.

Every published paper has its own context, journal requirements and stage of development. The register records editorial decisions and known variations without treating those differences as mistakes.

It brings together terminology, definitions, abbreviations, methods descriptions, article status, journal-specific conventions and author queries, with relevant notes on relationships between component papers and the final synthesis.

When it is time to prepare the dissertation, I can refer to that history rather than reconstructing years of editorial choices from scratch. The register is a practical continuity tool, not a claim to validate research methods or results.

The register begins with the first commissioned stage and is updated when further manuscript work is booked. It does not require a compulsory multi-year contract.

Inside the continuity register

Six connected records.
One useful reference.

The register is tailored to the research rather than generated from a fixed checklist. These six areas provide a practical starting framework.

01

Terminology & definitions

Core terms, recurring concepts and intentional changes in their meaning or preferred form.

02

Abbreviations & language

Introduced abbreviations, UK or US conventions and manuscript-specific expression choices.

03

Methods & datasets

Consistent editorial descriptions of methods, populations, datasets or study components, with uncertainties referred to the author.

04

Journal style exceptions

Each paper’s relevant house style, citation system and conventions that should not be artificially harmonised.

05

Article status & versions

Records of manuscript stage and article publication details supplied by the author, including what text is fixed.

06

Connections & open queries

Links among articles and synthesis chapters, cross-reference issues and decisions requiring scholarly input.

06 / A considered long-term arrangement

A continuing relationship.
Without unnecessary commitments.

01 / PUBLISHED WORK REMAINS FIXED

Continuity without rewriting history

Journal manuscripts are edited before submission, when author changes are still possible. Once an article is published, its journal-specific language, formatting and approved text are treated as fixed unless the relevant permissions and university requirements allow otherwise.

Any differences can be recorded in the register and reflected thoughtfully in editable synthesis material. Consistency means understanding genuine differences, not erasing them.

02 / COMMISSIONED STAGE BY STAGE

Editorial support when your research is ready

Begin with your first article, join after several papers, or commission support when the synthesis begins. Each article or dissertation stage receives a clear scope, quotation and delivery window before work starts.

There is no compulsory multi-year contract, no promise of reserved availability years ahead and no automatic charge for work you have not commissioned. The continuity register carries forward as agreed editorial work progresses.

Working on a single complete doctoral dissertation rather than a series of papers? The Manuscript Refinement Suite may offer a more appropriate editorial route.

07 / Milestone-based pricing

A long research journey.
Clear costs at each stage.

The Research Continuity Suite
Individually
quoted.
Separate commissions, one editorial record
You receive a defined quote for the work you are ready to commission. Each article and the final dissertation are scoped and scheduled individually; future prices or availability are not guaranteed.
Individual article editingArticle length, complexity, condition, journal instructions, referencing system and requested deadline inform each quotation.
Continuity register maintainedThe agreed time required to establish or update the register is identified in each relevant commission.
Dissertation-stage editorial planThe final synthesis, references, formatting, author-revision proof and applicable post-examination proof are scoped together when that stage is commissioned.

This is not a prepaid subscription or an open-ended retainer. Editing, register updates and final-stage proofreading are provided only within the commissioned and agreed scope. New articles, major rewrites, extensive examiner-requested additions or unexpected additional rounds require separate quotations.

08 / Common questions

Practical details.
Before the next paper.

Article-based doctorates evolve over years, and no two programmes follow the same publication requirements. These answers explain what editorial continuity means in practice.

When should I begin using the Research Continuity Suite?

Ideally, around your first article manuscript, before multiple papers have been submitted to different journals. That makes it possible to establish a continuity record while the research and editorial decisions are still developing.

You can also begin later. I will assess the articles and dissertation material available and establish the register from that point onwards.

Do I need to commit to several years of editing?

No. Each manuscript is quoted and commissioned separately. There is no mandatory multi-year agreement and no requirement to book future work before it is ready.

I cannot reserve capacity or guarantee the same rates indefinitely. Future commissions are subject to the schedule and scope agreed at that time.

What exactly is the Research Continuity Register?

It is a bespoke editorial reference that records recurring terminology, preferred spelling and abbreviations, relevant methods wording, journal-specific exceptions, publication details and questions to revisit when the synthesis is written.

It is updated during separately commissioned editing stages, and the author receives an agreed version as part of the deliverables.

Will every article be edited to the same style?

No. Each article is edited in accordance with its own target journal’s requirements, including citation style and language conventions where specified.

The register records deliberate differences and helps identify accidental drift. It never overrides journal instructions simply for uniformity.

Can you edit articles that are already published?

Published articles are generally treated as fixed publications. I can review them as reference material for continuity and the integrative dissertation, but do not silently alter their published wording.

Whether modified or author-accepted versions may be included in the final dissertation depends on the relevant university and publisher rules.

Can you copyedit all the articles, references and final dissertation?

Yes, provided each part is included in the agreed commissions. Unpublished articles can receive detailed copyediting and reference checking; the synthesis and other editable dissertation text can be copyedited later, with document-formatting checks for the final dissertation.

The contract for each stage identifies the precise manuscripts, services and turnaround.

Does the service cover the final dissertation’s synthesis?

Yes. The integrative chapters are a central part of the final-stage commission. I copyedit their language and check editorial relationships with the component articles, including terminology, article details and cross-references.

I do not create the synthesis or write the scholarly argument on your behalf.

Is post-examination proofreading included?

When the final dissertation editing stage is commissioned, its agreed scope includes one separate final proof after your author revisions and a defined post-examination proofread of reasonable examiner-requested textual corrections.

Substantial new material, repeated large-scale rewriting or an entirely new edition is not included automatically.

What if my research methods or terminology change over time?

The register can document genuine developments in terminology or methods descriptions and identify places where those changes may need clearer explanation in the synthesis.

I do not assess whether a methodological change is scientifically valid; academic decisions remain with you and your supervisors.

Can you help with the university’s formatting requirements?

Yes. The final dissertation commission can include formatting against the university, faculty or doctoral programme requirements you provide, including headings, contents, page numbering, front matter, tables, figures and cross-references.

Journal-produced article files and their reuse permissions remain subject to the relevant publisher and institutional rules.

Do you provide language revision certificates?

Yes. I can supply a certificate accurately describing the work completed for each applicable commission and the final dissertation.

If your institution has a required certificate form or wording, please share it when requesting the quotation.

What if I only need one completed dissertation edited?

For a single long-form manuscript that chiefly requires detailed copyediting, references and formatting, see the Manuscript Refinement Suite. If it is already well written and needs final proofreading, references and formatting, see the Manuscript Preparation Suite.

For an academic book project with a dedicated book-level assessment, explore the Scholarly Publication Suite.

Can you invoice my university or research group?

Institutional invoicing can be arranged when the necessary department, billing and procurement details are provided before the commission.

Each invoice corresponds to the scope and terms of the work agreed for that stage.

THE RESEARCH REMAINS YOURS.

Many publications.
One evolving scholarly contribution.

Article-based research grows through separate submissions, revisions and publications, each with its own demands. The final dissertation brings those pieces together and needs to communicate how they belong to the same body of work.

My role is to retain an informed editorial perspective through that process. You remain the researcher and author. The register preserves the language and editorial history, while each commissioned edit helps your scholarship remain clear and carefully presented.
